Nicholas Oleksy, who has served as the interim policy library coordinator for UW–Madison since December, has been selected to assume the permanent role, effective May 1. In this position, he will be responsible for the continued development, maintenance, and support of the UW–Madison Policy Library.

As policy library coordinator, Oleksy will serve in a consultative role, working with policy managers, approval authorities, and responsible offices across the campus to ensure that UW–Madison policies are up to date, well-written, and aligned with UW System Administration policy, Wisconsin state statutes, and other governing policies, rules, regulations, and laws.

Prior to being named interim policy library coordinator, Oleksy was hired by the Office of Strategic Consulting as part of a team dedicated to working with those responsible for university policies to review, revise, and update policies in the library. This was part of the planned post-implementation cleanup work after the policy library—the first-ever for the university—was launched in January 2021.

Oleksy previously served as associate director of the UW–Madison Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, a role that allowed him to overhaul policy and streamline processes to improve experiences for the university’s undergraduate and graduate students.

Prior to coming to UW–Madison, Oleksy served in various other student conduct roles at Ohio University and the University of Central Florida. In these roles, he led the creation, interpretation, education and enforcement of university policies, procedures, and regulations with respect to student discipline.

All these experiences have solidified what Oleksy describes as his “passion for working with faculty, staff, and students to create policies and processes that help shape the experience of the university community.”

The UW–Madison Policy library now serves as the single, up-to-date resource for all university-level policies at UW–Madison. It features extensive search functionality that allows users to search by topic or key words.

The Office of Strategic Consulting, supported by the provost and the vice chancellor for legal affairs as executive sponsors, led the two-year enterprise-wide initiative that made the policy library a reality. Scores of faculty, staff, and students contributed to that effort.

As part of Phase 2 of the policy library initiative, Strategic Consulting is working with schools, colleges, and divisions across campus to incorporate their policies into the library.
